Dr. Thabo Lephoto is a Lecturer and supervises postgraduate Statistics students pursuing research at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He holds a doctorate in Applied Statistics from the UKZN, and has a strong background in multivariate Bayesian modelling, spatio-temporal methods, and statistical computing, with research interests that extend to applied statistics, biostatistics, water quality, and the analysis of biological and microbiological data, including tick abundance studies. His work is motivated by the need to provide statistical insights that can inform policy interventions in public health, environmental management, and agriculture.
Dr. Lephoto has extensive experience in statistical computing through research collaborations, workshops, and conferences, where he as applied advanced methods to real-world datasets in environmental, microbiological, and agricultural sciences. He currently supervises students at both Honours and MSc levels, and he also provides statistical consulting in his spare time, working with practitioners across education, microbiology, biology of ticks, and agricultural sciences.
Passionate about fostering the next generation of statisticians, Dr. Lephoto continues to mentor and inspire students while advancing applied and Bayesian statistical methodologies in interdisciplinary contexts.
