Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy – Applied Mathematics is offered from the Pietermaritzburg campus. The Doctor of Philosophy aims to produce independent researchers in various disciplines, including all the disciplines mentioned above, who can make original and significant contributions to knowledge at the most advanced level by conducting original research that addresses complex context- based issues, under the guidance of a research supervisor or supervisory committee. The research project which combines specialised knowledge, skills and research mastery will culminate in the production of a thesis in the traditional forma or by publication
Entry Requirements
- Applicants are eligible to apply to register for the qualification of Doctor of Philosophy – Applied Mathematics if they have previously been awarded an appropriate prerequisite degree as specified by the discipline. The prerequisite degree is usually a master’s degree at NQF Level 9 in a cognate field. It is expected that the applicant will have sufficient research skills and be able to demonstrate the potential to conduct advanced research
