Biography

Anamika Sharma earned her bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in physics, chemistry and mathematics from Bangalore University and master’s in general chemistry from University of Mysore, India. Her professional journey started as a lecturer at MES College, Bangalore. She then joined Syngene International, Bangalore as a research associate to gain an insight into industrial R&D perspective. After this, she returned to University of Mysore to pursue doctoral studies. Her Ph.D. work focused on classical solution-phase peptide synthesis (CSPS) and bioconjugate chemistry, culminating in her Ph.D. in 2015. Following her Ph.D., she served as an Assistant Professor at Techno India, Kolkata. Subsequently, Anamika joined the Peptide Science Laboratory at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, as a postdoctoral fellow.

Her work led to several publications in peer reviewed journals and commercialization of two products marketed by “Iris Biotech GmbH”. She then worked at Prayoga, Bangalore, India as a senior researcher where she explored innovative teaching methods, particularly experiential learning. She then joined CSIR- Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) Hyderabad as a DST Inspire Faculty and Assistant Professor (AcSIR). In this role, her responsibilities included guiding several master’s thesis projects as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI.

Dr. Sharma’s research interests span organic chemistry, development of reagents and protecting groups for amino acids in SPPS, medicinal chemistry, and computational chemistry. Her work has resulted in numerous publications in scientific journals. Currently, her research focuses on developing reagents for peptide chemistry, linker chemistry and promoting environmentally friendly practices in SPPS.
