Bheki A Xulu obtained his BSc, BSc (Hons.) and MSc in chemistry at the University of Natal in Pietermaritzburg (UNP) before proceeding to the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman where he obtained his PhD in chemistry. He taught general chemistry for one year as adjunct faculty at the University of Central Oklahoma (Edmond) and at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC).
His research interests are on the kinetics and mechanistic studies of antimicrobial oxidants. The main focus being on understanding how these reactive oxidants affect human health and human inflammatory diseases. Furthermore, he conducts collaborative work on EPR/ESR studies of transition metal complexes.
