Dr Karen Pillay is passionate about teaching and Scientific research, and she holds a PhD in Biochemistry. Her area of research is Nanotechnology with a particular focus on magnetotactic bacteria. This bacterial species is used for nanoparticle synthesis and is also being evaluated for waste water bioremediation. One of Karen’s highlights during her career is being awarded the prestigious Department of Science and Technology (DST) Women in Science Doctoral fellowship in 2011.
