Athenkosi Makebe is an NGAP Lecturer and PhD candidate specializing in wheat mutation breeding for improved drought tolerance and root biomass allocation. His research integrates classical breeding, molecular tools, and mutation-based approaches to enhance crop resilience. He lectures undergraduate modules, supervises postgraduate students, and is advancing novel wheat genotypes toward cultivar registration and the acquisition of Plant Breeders’ Rights.
