Prof Benny Bytebier obtained his PhD from Stellenbosch University in 2007. His research focuses on the systematics, biogeography and evolutionary history of African orchids. He is a C-rated researcher with the National Research Foundation and has published over 60 peer-reviewed scientific papers and contributed to several books. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of East African Natural History. He hails from Belgium but has been living and working in Africa since 1990.
