Biography
Prof Bower is an experienced and innovative agricultural advisor and researcher holding a PhD degree, with both commercial and academic background. He specializes in the maintenance and management of pre- and post harvest quality of fruit, vegetables and flowers. He also has experience in project management, strategic planning, and general administrative leadership. He has experience consulting for companies and grower organizations in South Africa, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Peru, New Zealand, and Israel.
Research Interests
- Stress and growth physiology
- linking pre-harvest environmental conditions and plant nutrition to post-harvest product attributes, including fruit chilling sensitivity and ripening physiology
- Fruit quality prediction modelling and design of appropriate cooling, storage and shipping protocols.
