Ms Amahle Mkhize has received the 100th Anniversary Scholarship, a Prestige Undergraduate Scholarship that recognises the third-placed student among the University’s top-performing undergraduates.

Mkhize, who is pursuing a BSc in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, was drawn to the programme by her love of mathematics and has since discovered the real-world applicability of statistics.

Mkhize chose UKZN for its strong academic offerings and outstanding reputation. She has benefited from the University’s many resources, which have enhanced her understanding of her modules and helped her excel.

Receiving this scholarship has been meaningful for Mkhize, providing not only financial support but also recognition of her hard work and dedication.

“It makes me proud of how far I have come and motivates me to continue striving for excellence. I’m so grateful to receive this scholarship; it literally shows that hard work does pay off,” she said.

Setting her sights on an honours degree, Mkhize looks forward to further developing her skills and knowledge while exploring career opportunities.

“I want to be successful, keep growing and make something meaningful of my life,” she said.

Her family, particularly her mother, has been a source of encouragement and support, helping Mkhize through times when university became overwhelming.

She thanked her mother and her friend, Ms Nothando Mazibuko, for encouraging her to persevere. Mkhize expressed gratitude for the opportunities that contributed to her receiving the scholarship. She said the award has motivated her to continue working hard, make the most of her education and believe in herself.
